Job Service „Heinzelmännchen“

The job service „Heinzelmännchen“ is a facility of the „Studentenwerk“ Berlin. We do job placements for students at Berlin institutions of higher learning. We are not profit-oriented. If you are enrolled in full-time studies and not more than 45 years of age, you may register with us and take advantage of our services. If your are enrolled part-time, unfortunately, we will not be able to offer your our placement services. Our prerequisites are as follows:

  • Enrollment at an institution of higher learning in Berlin (the currently valid, large enrollment certificate must be submitted)

  • Personal ID or passport

  • Income tax card (Lohnsteuerkarte) for the current year

  • One passport photo or color copy

  • Bank account data (with evidence such as a bank card or account receipts)

  • Social insurance documentation

  • Health insurance data (chip card)

  • Valid residency permit or work permit (if required)

  • Registration fee of EURO 5.00

Our Special Services:

  • Professional Placement: You already have qualifications in a particular area (completed training, completed basic studies, certificate, etc.) and would like to find employment in the same area. Or you would like to acquire qualifications in a particular area through continuous work in the same area.

  • Self-Collector” Service: Would your employer like you to work on a long-term basis? And would you like your tax formalities to be taken care of by our accounting office? No problem!

When a job opportunity has been found, the student is given a Placement Certificate which must be invoiced within eight weeks. Processing fees amounting to 3% are due and in certain cases taxes must be paid. If the certificate is first returned for invoicing eight weeks after its date of issue, the fees due rise to 6%. Taxes and processing fees must be paid immediately. If the certificate has been sent by mail, or if fees and/or taxes for the current or past quarters are pending for any other reason, the open amount must be paid directly at the counter of the Job Service.
